Minimal Downtime Migrations

M.D.G. IT offers complimentary site migrations with all hosting plans. The cutover from an existing host generally results in less than five minutes of downtime. This is scheduled to occur overnight unless a specific cutover time is requested.

Our support team will initially duplicate the site to the new server, allowing clients the opportunity to test performance and functionality before proceeding to go-live. The duplication takes place without interruption to the live website.

Once the site duplicate has passed all tests, DNS cache times are reduced and a migration time is scheduled. On sites with dynamic content, the site is briefly placed into maintenance mode during the live migration to prevent records (like user accounts or orders) being stranded on the old host. DNS is then updated to route traffic to the new server.
